I walked in right at the moment when we heard scanner traffic declaring an active shooter, so I jumped into action. A lot of my show was advancing content from earlier shows. I played with it quite a bit to keep it moving and compelling. I worked with my digital producer to edit the confirmed scanner traffic. The cold sot open with urgent scanner traffic and text on screen definitely made for a strong beginning. I jumped straight to national with Bush death local reaction and decided to make them all quote graphics for consistency, versus jumping to tweets. I got exclusive video from one of my anchor's friends in Alaska and had my production assistants cut that. I took the Rockefeller Christmas Tree bump shot to end on a lighter note.

The process of writing this show went extremely slow because there was a lot of local news! The leads stuck out like a sore thumb and my stacking evolved from there. The only hard transition was between the helicopter crash and a reporter's do-good package, but I eased through that by moving my anchor to a different spot on set and maintaining the local angle. I differentiated my newscast from the previous shows by mixing up scripts and seeking out other angles, like the statement from Claire McCaskill.

I had to slide my show due to football! Overall, it went relatively smoothly. I had communicated to my anchors that I needed them at the RPS to make for a strong beginning with the California wildfires. No time for mic check either because the floor director was not down there on time so the meterologist's mic wasn't on for A block weather, but I quickly got in my anchor's ear and told them to go straight to Skycam. This was a moment where I practice thinking quickly on my feet! I originally had my anchor, Nikki at the HK for a few stories, but they were dropped to save time. She hustled there for 1 story, but I think it helped transition story topics.
